DESCRIPTION

This session will consider advanced topics in pediatric hospice and palliative care pain control. Two physicians, one with many years experience in homecare and the other director of the acupuncture service and member of the pain team at Boston Children's Hospital, will discuss new understanding of pain physiology, assessment and treatment. A wide range of topics will be considered, including assessment of developmentally impaired children, recommended opioid dosing adjustments for age, child and parent-controlled analgesia, and complementary and alternative medical therapies for pain control, including acupuncture.
